USER CHALLENGE
Climbers are always looking for new routes, crags, and challenges, but finding reliable, relevant information isn’t always easy. Whilst printed guidebooks have long been the ultimate source of truth, shifting behaviours mean they’re no longer the default.
Now in a world shaped by instant digital access and increased travel, there are more options than just guidebooks that may only be used once. As a result freely shared topos and digital platforms are in higher demand than ever before. However these have their own drawbacks, often featuring outdated interfaces and inconsistent data, which ultimately leads to a frustrating user experience.
WIDER ISSUES
It also exposes a deeper ecosystem issue. Guidebook sales have historically funded local route developers, supporting the maintenance and creation of climbing routes. However, revenue from digital alternatives often doesn't reach local developers, putting the long-term sustainability of climbing areas at risk.
